Music Therapy

Music therapy is an established, research-based profession in which music is used within a therapeutic relationship to address goal areas such as social, emotional, communication, physical, sensory, and cognitive.

Music Therapy Services generally follow the therapeutic process outlined below.

1. Free Consultation

We offer complimentary consultations to people interested in learning more about our services. This is a time for you to meet with a music therapist to learn more about music therapy and see our offices or for the therapist to visit your location.

2. Assessment

This is the first formal step of the music therapy process.  A comprehensive assessment will be completed (generally over 1.5 hours which can be divided) to assess functioning across a variety of domain areas based on clinical need.  Following the assessment sessions, the music therapist will provide a written assessment report and proposed treatment plan, outlining goals created in partnership with the participants during the assessment phase.  There is no commitment to move forward with services after the assessment, but the music therapist will make recommendations for frequency and length of sessions if you desire to continue.

Assessments in office or online are paid as a package price starting at $295 for the entire assessment phase.

Assessments in community locations may take place during the first few scheduled sessions, or may be charged as a package price prior to committing to ongoing services depending on exact circumstance.

3. Treatment

If you desire to move forward with ongoing music therapy sessions after the assessment phase, you would receive a music therapy treatment contract outlining the agreements for treatment goals, frequency, and length of sessions.  We operate on a quarterly treatment calendar that starts September 1st of each year.  You can begin therapy at any time during the treatment calendar, with renewal of treatment contracts occuring each September 1st if you desire ongoing services.  After each session, the music therapist will record data on progress towards treatment plan.

4. Evaluation

Our music therapists provide quarterly reports to summarize progress made towards treatment goals and suggest any recommended adjustments to goals that may have been achieved.  Alternative frequency for evaluation may be discussed upon starting services.  Sessions may continue to occur as long as the participant desires, or until participant and therapist feel that music therapy is no longer a necessary service due to goal attainment or insufficient progress or attendance.  Typically, we request a 30-day notice to terminate services.
