Summer Programs

We have a variety of summer programs around NW Ohio. Registration is required. Please see group descriptions, recommended ages, cost, locations, dates, and times below.

Our groups are open to youth of all ages and abilities! Many are also open to caregivers or family participation.

Spring Into Summer (PreK-Teen)
May 6, 13, 27 from 5-6pm

Many changes happen in May as we transition from the growth of spring into the energy of the summer. Active music making, songwriting, and re-creation all provide avenues for the processing of change and expression of the feelings that may come along with it.
Cost $30 per person for all 3 sessions.

Caregiver & Me Spring Into Summer (Toddler & PreK primarily)
May 5, 12, 19, 26 from 2-2:30pm

A developmentally appropriate group for young ones and their caregivers to explore the shift between spring and summer through engagement in music-making, movement, singing, and stories. 
Cost is $24 per family for all 4 sessions.

The Music of My Feelings (Elementary & Pre-Teen/Teen)
July 14-16 from 9-10am (elementary) and 10:30-11:30am (pre-teen/teen)

Music provides a wonderful medium for the expression of feelings, with or without words. Through this camp participants will explore the connections between music and emotions through songwriting, improvising, movement, and reflection. Participants will also explore ways they can use music to connect with, express, and regulate their emotions.
Cost $30 per person for all 3 sessions.

Rock Band Camp (Pre-Teens/Teens)
July 27-29 from 9:30-11am

This is a collaborative experience in which participants will explore different roles and instruments to create a band and play together. They will explore playing and/or creating music from different genres and the skills it takes to work together as a team. (No prior musical experience is necessary!)
Cost is $55 per person for all 3 sessions.

The Science of Sound
August 4-5 from 9-10am (elementary) and 10:30-11:30am (pre-teen/teen)

Come learn about the science of sound through experiments, music-making, and games! Participants will explore how sounds are created and how changes to music instruments impact how they sound.
Cost is $20 per person for both sessions.

Back to School Social Group
August 18-20 from 9-10am (elementary) and 10-11am (pre-teens/teens)

As the school year approaches get together with peers to commiserate or share excitement leading up to the new school year. Through music making and songwriting participants will explore their hopes and worries for the new school year and hopefully make some new friends along the way!
Cost is $30 per person for all 3 sessions.

Dance Party! (family)
June 28 and July 26 from 3:30-4:30pm

Put on your dancing shoes and come join us for a dance party! Line dance, partner dance, or freestyle, there will be something for everyone.
Cost is $10 per family per session.

Songs and Stories (family)
June 28 and July 26 from 2-2:45pm
August 3 and 24 from 9-9:45am

Stories have been told and shared through songs for many years. Join us in exploring some musical stories and maybe creating ones of our own.
Cost is $8 per family per session.

Make It, Play It, Take It (family)
August 3, 17, 24 from 10-11am

Bringing music into a child’s life can be as easy as 1-2-3 with “Make It, Play It, Take It!” At each group, participants will have the chance to make their own musical instruments out of items that are commonly found at home and school! After learning about the historical and cultural context of the instrument, participants will be supported by the group facilitator (licensed music therapist) as they infuse their creativity into making their own musical instrument. At the end of each group, the instruments will be used to engage in a group music making experience, celebrating the uniqueness of each instrument and person. Instruments will then be yours to take with you to keep the music going!
Cost is $10 per family per session.

Celebrating Me: Neurodiversity-Affirming Group
June 24, July 1, 8, 15, 22, 29 from 10-10:45am

A strengths-based group centered on identity, self-expression, and emotional/sensory regulation through therapeutic music experiences such as songwriting, improvisation, and recreative music-making. Open for individuals ages 12-17 years old, this group aims to create meaningful connections and offer opportunities for participants to learn more about what it means for them to be Neurodiverse. 
Cost is $48 per person for all 6 sessions. 

Intergenerational Family Music Group
July 8, 15, 22, 29 from 11:30am-12:15pm

A community-based experience for children and their caregivers to engage together in therapeutic music experiences that promote family cohesion, shared joy, and meaningful social interaction. Research has shown that music can enhance familial bonds and relationships of all kinds. This group will draw upon the centuries of music traditions and offer opportunities for families to connect through familiar music experiences, such as recreative singing, music and movement, and musical storytelling.
Cost is $8 per family per session. 

Early Explorers Music Group
June 9, 16, 23, 30 and June 4, 11, 18, 25 from 11-11:45am

 A developmentally responsive therapeutic music experience designed for younger participants who benefit from caregiver involvement, emphasizing exploration, routine, choice-making, and early communication through music. This group welcomes participants (toddler and preschool) and their caregivers to join us in recreating familiar songs, playing new musical instruments, moving and dancing together, and more, all while supporting foundational resources for the unique development needs of this age group.
Cost is $32 per child for a 4 week session.

Therapeutic Music Skills Camp
DRUMS June 9, 16, 23, 30 from 4:30-5:15pm
UKULELE July 7, 14, 21, 28 from 4:30-5:15pm

A focused camp experience utilizing ukulele or drumming to promote skill-building, confidence, cooperation, and self-regulation in a group setting. Learning how to play a musical instrument can be a great source of accomplishment and achievement as it provides immediate feedback regarding progress that’s being made. Both ukulele and drums are instruments that require little to no prior experience and can be played confidently after just one session! Drawing upon music therapy approaches and techniques, this group will engage participants in learning how to play music in ways that uniquely support any cognitive needs of any participant. Therapeutic Music Skills Camp is a great introduction to incorporating music into a participant’s day to day life, while also promoting a sense of community as it is taught alongside peers.
Cost is $32 per person for a 4 week session.

Voices Together
August 4, 11, 18 from 4:30-5:15pm

Our voice: the musical instrument that is always with us! Join us for a bi-weekly singing workshop at Heartstring Melodies in our Toledo Office on Tuesdays from 4:30–5:15 p.m. Participants will gain knowledge and insight into safe singing practices through warm-ups and cool-downs, explore building meaningful social connections through singing, and tap into a form of creative self-expression. Each group will include opportunities to sing preferred songs together and explore vocal improvisation. No prior singing or musical experience is necessary!
Cost is $8 per person per seession.

Make It, Play It, Take It
June 27, July 25, August 29, September 26 from 1-2pm

After learning about the historical and cultural context of the instrument of the week, participants will be supported by the group facilitator (licensed music therapist) as they infuse their creativity into making their own musical instrument. At the end of each group, the instruments will be used to engage in a group music making experience, celebrating the uniqueness of each instrument and person. Instruments will then be yours to take with you to keep the music going! While many supplies will be available to create your own instrument, we encourage participants to bring any items that they think could be repurposed into a new instrument! Think of all the possibilities: spare keys, shoe boxes, empty containers, mis-matched jewelry, the opportunities are endless!
Cost is $10 per family per session.
